Montreal is located in the southwest of the province of Quebec and is the most populous municipality in the province of Quebec and the second-most populous in Canada. The city covers most of the Island of Montreal at the confluence of the Saint Lawrence and Ottawa Rivers. Montreal has hosted multiple international conferences and events throughout its history. It is the only Canadian city to have held the Summer Olympics in 1976. In 2012, Montreal was ranked as a Beta+ world city.
